What a hostel does better
The short term. If you are starting a three-month job, do not know whether you will stay in the town, or need somewhere to sleep tonight, a hostel is practical: you can usually move in immediately, you do not need a deposit of ten thousand, and you do not pay for the time you are not there. For seasonal work lasting a single season it can be a sensible solution.
What you gain with your own flat
- Privacy. Your own front door, your own bathroom, your own kitchen. Nobody walks through your room.
- An address. You can register permanent residence in the flat, which makes dealing with the authorities, a doctor and a bank simpler.
- Predictable costs. Advance payments for utilities that are settled once a year against the meters.
- Independence from your employer. Changing jobs does not mean moving house.
- Peace and quiet. The building is intended solely for long-term living, smoking is prohibited and the owner chooses reliable tenants.
